Purple Tea - Kenia

In de Tigania-regio nabij de Mount Kenya wordt deze bijzondere paarse thee geteeld op 1.700 tot 2.000 meter hoogte. De natuurlijke paarse kleur van het blad is afkomstig van een unieke theeplant met vermoedelijke oorsprong in Yunnan en een hoog gehalte aan anthocyanen, ook aanwezig in blauwe bessen en frambozen. De infusie onthult fruitige aroma’s van pruimen en rode bessen en kleurt helder roze met citroensap.

In the Tigania region, not far from Mount Kenya, this beautiful purple tea is produced at an altitude of 1,700-2,000 metres. The light purple colour of the leaf is not the result of production, but of the use of a very special tea plant, which is said to have its origins in Yunnan. Its anthocyanin content provides the characteristic colouring - a substance that is also found in blueberries and raspberries. The tea itself also has complex, fruity flavours of plums and red berries. The light infusion can be turned into a bright pink by adding lemon juice.
